Greetings From 1967

We were down from the little town there we lived to visit the families of my parents for the spring holidays. I was seven and had just got my first very own camera. It was a Zeiss Ikomat A, a camera that took 126 Instamatic film. This is picture is from the first cartridge of Kodachrome that went through it.

Meet my parents, my father’s parents and an aunt of his. This coming weekend we celebrate the memory of our dead. These people are that now, but in this picture they are still very much alive…

The picture was taken on Kodachrome II with the above mentioned camera.

Nice Rides

SAABs models 99 and 900 (original) captured side by side 1984 or -85. I had gone back from Leica to Olympus OM cameras to get better focus and exposure control. The OM one digit film cameras were truly professional with lenses on par with those from Nikon and Canon, but had some complaints on the durability of the cameras themselves. The OMs are not to be confused with the half frame Pens or the tiny sensor digital offerings from Olympus. I’ve tried the latter and have moved on…

OM-1 with Zuiko 85/2.0, I think. Scanned from a Fujichrome slide.

The Scanning Workflow

I scan mostly with a Plustek OpticFilm 8200i, powered by the Hamrick Vuescan Pro software. The program package that came bundled with the unit was almost worthless featuring a clunky interface and was producing scans at the speed of drying paint… I clean the slides before scanning with compressed air, microfiber cloth and worn cotton fabrics. I plan to use this setup with both color and black and white negatives too.
